2015
We started in early 2015 as five friends who met while bartending in Copenhagen’s craft-beer scene. It began as a side project: one fermentation tank in a shared space at the Ølkollektivet in Gørløse, north of the city. We brewed a beer, kegged it, delivered it to local bars, and started the next one. That was the rhythm.

2016
In 2016 we added bottles and a second tank. Exports to neighbouring countries followed, yet we all kept our full-time jobs in the scene through 2017. In 2018 we decided to find out if Gamma could stand on its own. We installed more tanks, swapped the bottling machine for a canning line, and watched the beers take off. Suddenly we were travelling to international festivals and becoming part of the European craft conversation.

2019
By the end of 2019 we had outgrown Gørløse, and when we tasted the first batch of our, now famous, double IPA “Big Doink” we were convinced Gamma could become more than just a hobby passion project. Early in 2020 we found a 1,000 m² warehouse in Herlev—an empty industrial space that felt like the perfect blank canvas. Lease negotiations collided with the first COVID lockdowns. We feared the worst, but the support that arrived through webshop orders, private deliveries, export clients and local shops was overwhelming. That support gave us the confidence to sign the lease, take the keys, order equipment and start building the brewery we had always imagined.

2021
Almost exactly a year later, in early 2021, our new brewhouse, tanks and canning line were ready. We opened a tasting room and shop right beside the production floor. In 2022 four new 6,000-litre tanks nearly doubled our capacity. We grew the team across sales, marketing and production, introduced organic beers into the flagship range, improved the tasting room and extended the opening hours.
In 2021 we introduced our flagship range, a collection of core beers we brew year-round and supply more widely and brew in larger batches. Since then the flagship range has grown and now represents 70% of our sales, including familiar favourites like Big Doink which is now available nationwide in Meny, 7-Eleven and other retailers for everyone to enjoy.

2023
In 2023, when the new Danish government removed the Great Prayer Day holiday, we decided to substitute with our very own holiday “Great Doink Day” where we celebrate our most popular beer Big Doink by brewing new variations of the original recipe, and even invite other breweries to interpret the recipe. All the variants are released on the day at the brewery with live music, games, street food, fun times and lovely spring weather. What was a fun poke at an unpopular policy has now grown into a stable annual party that we look forward to with much excitement each year.
The name itself came from an overthought idea: we once heard that Buddhist monks emit gamma radiation while meditating, and wondered whether our beer might put people into a similar state of zen. Whatever the science, the beers we love to drink—juicy, hop-forward New England IPAs, Double IPAs and the occasional sour or darker ale—have carried us this far.

Today
Today we brew in our own purpose-built home in Herlev, welcome people into the tasting room every Friday, ship across the EU from our webshop, and, since late 2024, pour our beers at Gamma NV in Copenhagen’s Nordvest. From one tank in a collective to a modern brewery, taproom and city bar, the story is still the same: we simply wanted to make the beers we love to drink, and we never stopped trying to make them better.

Best Danish beer around at the moment, in my opinion. Uncompromisingly well-crafted, with great ingredients, but also elegantly balanced. And consistently high quality, which certainly isn’t a given for microbreweries: I’ve never been disappointed by a Gamma beer. I prefer their slightly weaker beers (below around 8% ABV), but the stronger ones are also really good — just very full-bodied, of course. Great work, and thank you for all the great beers!

In my eyes, Denmark’s best brewery when it comes to hoppy beers. They have a fantastic range of regular beers in their lineup, but are also constantly coming up with new and interesting ideas, many of which are collaborations with other breweries from around the world.
I get a whole case delivered to my door every month, with a nice mix of whatever freshly brewed beers they have available at the time. You can even ask them to avoid certain styles if there’s something you’re not into.
Fantastic service and a fantastic subscription!

The subscription box is a really good way to try new beers — perhaps even some you wouldn’t normally buy yourself. My brother and I share the box, and neither of us would ever think of buying a sour. Now we get to try a few anyway, and it’s actually quite fun.
That said, IPA is definitely what we drink the most of, with porter to some extent as well, and the quality is very high in both categories.
